Dear prayer partners,
Hope in darkness. Over the past few days this idea has been on my heart. Life is filled with so much tragedy, sickness, and darkness. But there is hope—hope in Jesus. There is trouble in the world, and over the past few days violence in Mexico. We’re praising God that we have not been affected by the violence happening in the north of Mexico right now. But as many know, that could change at any moment, and we’re trusting God for safety.
God has allowed us to have many opportunities to minister to the people of Faro de Luz over the last two months. At the beginning of January, we went over to one of the ladies of the church’s house. She has been facing some trials with her children and wanted a time of prayer and encouragement as well as rededicating her life and house to serving God. The following week we had the opportunity to meet with another lady, who just started attending church, who knew she wasn’t saved and wanted to know more about Christ. Over coffee, Josh had the opportunity to go through the Gospel with her, and we rejoiced with her as she accepted Christ as her personal Savior!
During January, Katye taught through the Wordless Book and was able to see one of the little girls come to know Christ as her Savior. Over the six-week lesson period, three of the kids memorized all five verses that go with the Wordless Book. After they finished learning about each page, we had a party to celebrate. That Sunday we had 10 kids come (the most kids we’ve had in class). Each child received their own Wordless Book and a paper to help them share the Gospel with it.
On February 8th, Iglesia Bautista Faro de Luz celebrated 8 years. This was a huge challenge testing our Spanish with each new step. We hosted the people of Faro de Luz and Esperanza Viva for this special day. The people of the church were very excited to help celebrate their church and helped us organize everything for the day. We had 60 people there with several visitors attending. The day was a wonderful celebration of all that God has done for the church in the past 8 years and looking forward to what He will continue to do in the future. We continue to see visitors come each week and are excited that the new families are starting to get involved in the ministries of the church.
The last Friday of the month we started hosting a meeting for the teens of the church to fellowship and hear teaching for their place in life. We’re praying that we will see growth in this group of teens. God has truly stretched us in our Spanish, and we continue to see progress every day.
