Dear prayer partners,
After nine months of Spanish classes, we officially finished class on November 21. We are so blessed with amazing teachers who worked hard to help us learn the language quickly. Of course, language learning is a lifelong process, but we are both excited to be able to communicate with the people here. During the month of November, Faro de luz (Lighthouse Baptist) and Esperanza viva (Living Hope Baptist) hosted a missions conference. Pastor Allinson combined the two churches to host one conference together. We had two families come and were able to FaceTime another missionary that the churches support. Josh and Katye were able to host one of the families in our home for the week. It was an amazing opportunity to help us practice our Spanish and to get to know this precious family better. At the end of the conference, both churches took their faith promise giving, and we were able to add the two families to our mission’s family. We were also able to celebrate Thanksgiving with some American missionaries and a family in the church. It was a wonderful time of fellowship, games, and food.
December has been a very busy month. At the beginning of the month, the ladies of the church took a trip to a town about 4 hours from the city. They had a wonderful time of fellowship and shopping. We then began to prepare for the Christmas season and the next several months. The Allinson family left on December 16 for a six-month furlough, leaving us to run Faro de luz (Lighthouse Baptist) and another young couple to run Esperanza viva (Living Hope Baptist.) We are very thankful for the opportunity to minister to the people and to learn the ministry side of things in Spanish. On the 21st, we were able to have a small Christmas program; some visitors came, and we had a lot of the church members attend. After the program, we had a fellowship and spent time getting to know the people better. Katye has begun teaching the kids’ Sunday school class. She is excited to be able to use her love of teaching to see the kids grow in their knowledge of God and the Bible. Josh has taken over the church responsibilities; one of the men in the church has been growing and learning how to help in the church. Both of us are excited to see the church members grow and serve God with their lives. We also had the opportunity to spend Christmas with Josh’s parents and grandmother who came down to see us and experience what Mexico is like. They were able to visit many historical sights here and to try many different foods. It was a blessing to get to share our ministry here with them. We closed the year out by watching fireworks across the city with our neighbors.
