Dear Prayer Partners,
Psalm 34:8 – “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him.”
In September, we were able to celebrate Mexican Independence Day! The Saturday before, our church hosted a party to celebrate. It was a wonderful time of fellowship, games, and, of course, amazing food. Mexican Independence Day festivities begin the night of the 15th. We had the opportunity to go with our Spanish teachers to a nearby town for “El Grito.” The next day, we got up early to attend the parade in downtown Mexico City. It was an amazing opportunity to learn more about Mexican culture. That night, after the parade, we spent time with several families from the church, eating and playing games!
At the end of September, we had the privilege of filling in at a nearby church while their pastor was out of town. It was a wonderful opportunity to practice our Spanish. We continue to stay busy helping with visitation and kids’ classes at the church and are excited to see visitors attending as a result.
October has been a busy month. We celebrated one year on the field and are starting to prepare for the future. Bro. Allinson had to be away for a week, which gave Josh the opportunity to cover all the church services. This was excellent practice as we prepare for the next step. Katye was able to host the ladies’ fellowship this month and give the devotional. This was her first time teaching the ladies here and the longest she has spoken in Spanish at one time. We’re both very thankful for our Spanish teachers and how they’ve helped us learn the language. We’ve reached the point where we’ve reduced our classes to a few per week, with the goal of finishing in November. We also celebrated the 20th anniversary of Living Hope Baptist Church, the first church plant of the Allinson family. God has truly blessed this church—they were able to pay off the property and are excited to see what He will do in the future.
In late December, the Allinsons will be leaving for a six-month furlough. During this time, we will be covering the responsibilities at Lighthouse Baptist Church. Please pray for us—this will be a big test of our Spanish ability. We are excited for this opportunity God has given us to minister here in Mexico City. When they return, we plan to move to Lomas Verdes and begin preparing for a church plant in that part of the city.
